Capillary rise through footings is a major problem if foundation perimeter walls are finished or insulated on the interior. The footings are in constant contact with wet soil. This can transport moisture from the footings up into the bottom part of the wall. Vapor diffusion can continue to carry this moisture into interior wall cavities where it can cause mold and rot.
